New FCL Depot Fee

Container depots are introducing a new fee.

This fee will be charged to transport companies for both returning empty containers after imported consignments have been unpacked (commonly called ``de-hiring’’) and also collecting empty containers for export jobs.

This new fee is being passed on us and so there will be a new line-item on your invoice that reflects the cost.

It is $12 for each FCL.

The fee starts on May 6, so will be charged for any FCL due to be delivered on or after that date.

The container depots say the fee is necessary because there has been law enforcement pressure on them (via their responsibility as loading managers in the Chain of Responsibility Legislation) to implement a better and more visible process with regards to empty containers.

This has meant introducing on May 6 a software program and the necessary staff that goes with it.

The transport companies also expect it will be more work for them. They say the process will not only take extra administration time but will possibly create additional road trips to return or collect empty containers.

We appreciate your understanding at this time and welcome any contact you wish to make with us about this issue.
